Social Media - Library and Information Services

I was lucky enough to attend the SirsiDynix Sydney Roadshow on Friday. Not only did I get to enjoy the beautiful Sydney sunshine, but I also learnt about something that has a lot of relevance to what we are studying at the moment.

SirsiDynix has developed this thing called Social Library. You can read more about it here. Essentially, the idea is that your library can interact with its community via Facebook. Wait a minute, I hear you say. That’s not new! We’ve seen plenty of libraries who already do that!

There is one slight difference – Social Library allows the user to search the catalog in the Facebook interface. It allows them to access their accounts. It allows them to place holds and download eresources. All from within Facebook!
